SHRM Recap

What a conference! We had so much fun attending and exhibiting at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Annual Conference. It took place right in our backyard, our town of Chicago. People came from across the globe to attend the conference.

The conference theme was Becoming More, becoming "Bolder. Better. Smarter." Armed with new knowledge learned from fellow HR pros and attending sessions, we are excited to bring even more innovation and thought leadership to Advanced Resources.

Here's a brief overview of our conference experience:

Booth 4131 was the place to be! We met people from all over the world, making it a unique experience. We chatted with HR pros, job seekers and vendors on how Advanced Resources delivers insight, results and excellence with our talent acquisition and workforce business solutions.

Bonus: Visitors could take their picture with Hillary Rodham Clinton, well, a cardboard cutout version! Our Be a Star in Chicago theme was complete with Blues Brothers style sunglasses and snazzy ear buds.

There were over 200 concurrent sessions to choose from, covering all aspects of HR. Our team members attended sessions centered on the future of HR, i.e. social HR and social recruiting, as well as on best practices for employee engagement and enhancing communication. These sessions aligned quite well with our values - Advanced Resources values innovation and believes the greatest asset and investment of any organization is its people.

There was a lot of social buzz happening during SHRM, too, especially during sessions. We live tweeted from some of the sessions to share tidbits of information we learned.

SHRM knows how to treat! The conference kicked off on Sunday with an empowering speech by Hillary Rodham Clinton on the importance of giving children all they need to get a good footing in life. Monday we were treated to an inspiring speech by Blake Mycoskie, CEO of TOMS. He encouraged companies to get involved in volunteer work and to make giving a part of business plans. Daniel Pink spoke Tuesday on the art and science of moving and influencing people. The final keynote speakers were Mark Kelly and Gabby Giffords, capping off the stream of empowering and inspirational speeches. They spoke of the journey their family has taken and how they're living their new life together.

Monday night we celebrated Advanced Resource's 25th anniversary at The Crown, a beautiful venue atop the Tribune Tower. It was a fun way to thank our employees for 25 years and to celebrate the years to come! The following night, Tuesday, SHRM hosted a Kelly Clarkson concert and she treated us with an hour's worth of her top hits.

HR - what a field to be in! Thanks, SHRM, for putting on a great conference!
